ASSESSMENT PATTERN

Assessment and evaluation for classes I to VIII comprises of two terms – Term I and Term II. Classes IX and X are similar – only one term. The assessment structure comprises of two areas:

Scholastic Areas (classes I to VIII)

Four periodic tests, Half early examination and Annual examination. Two periodic tests (20 marks) were conducted before the Half early examination (80 marks) and two after that. Annual examination (80 marks) was held in the month of March. In addition to that, students were assessed on the basis of their notebook submission – punctuality and neatness and subject enrichment program –ASL for languages and assignments for subjects.

Class IX and X – three periodic test, Half early examination and three model exams. For model exams all the text books were divided into two. The first part was taken for the first model, second part for the second model and the whole portions for the last exam. All the exams were out of 80 marks.

Co – Scholastic Area

For the overall development of the students, a half day was given for teaching co-curricular activities (music, dance, yoga, painting, craftwork, chess, musical instruments, abacus, karate, debate, gardening etc… Experts in that field were appointed as trainers. It was compulsory that all the students must be engaged in learning anyone of the activities at that time. But they had the freedom to select the activities according to their taste. It was also an opportunity for the trainer to select students for the competitions outside the school.

  • No home works were given to class I and II.
  • In addition to the above, the students were assessed on the basis of their punctuality, discipline, observing the rules and regulations of the school, moral values, neatness, attitude towards school authorities, teachers, friends, outsiders, society etc.

Best Practices of The School

  1. To strengthen the rapport between teachers, students and parents, teachers visited the houses of all the students. It was an opportunity to know more about the family background of the students.
  2. Students who were weak in various subjects were identified and remedial teaching was given to them. More than 90% of them showed remarkable improvement after one week.
  3. Class wise assemblies were conducted once in a week. It was based on the importance of anyone of the days in that week. Students who were hesitant or nervous to participate in the school youth festivals also came forward and showed their maximum participation. It was a platform to identity the talents of many students.
  4. To ensure the involvement of students in maintaining the discipline of the school, a School Army was formed (students from high school). They controlled and maintained the discipline during intervals. In addition to that teachers were also given discipline duties in the mornings.
  5. Veterans were appointed to give coaching to students for participating in the National Judo Meet. They bagged medals also.
  6. Teachers along with the School Army checked the uniform of the students – proper way of wearing, neatness, hairstyle and punctuality. Grades were awarded.
  7. National and international days were celebrated. As part of it, competitions were also held. To instil the spirit of patriotism and to identify the sacrifices of great leaders, Independence Day was celebrated in a grand way. Students took pledge to keep the unity and integrity of our country.
  8. Field trips were organized for all classes to provide first-hand knowledge and experience in various fields.
  9. To develop the reading skills of the students, online reading test were conducted. Gave the correction at that time itself and motivated the students.
  10. Seminars (teenage problems) and motivational classes led by experts were given to high school students. Separate classes were given to boys and girls on sexual education.
  11. To develop sympathy and compassion towards his fellow beings, students along with the teachers visited old age homes, orphanages and special schools. They conducted entertainment programs for them.
  12. Students were encouraged to contribute, even their small savings to the students affected by the flood.
  13. To develop the fluency in English, different activities like FM radio, skits, and interviews were organized. To a certain extent, it helped in reducing the stage fright of the students.
  14. Merited students were given extra coaching in their subjects and those who violated the rules of language were advised to deliver English speeches in the general assembly.
